Royapettah landmarks

 Royapettah Clock Tower: A prominent Art Deco-style landmark erected in the 1930s, this functioning clock tower stands at the junction of Westcott Road and Royapettah High Road, serving as a historic timekeeper and a key visual marker of the neighborhood. 


Thousand Lights Mosque: Built in 1810 by Nawab Umdat-ul-Umrah of the Carnatic, this Shia mosque is named for the approximately 1,000 lamps historically used to illuminate its prayer hall.  It features medieval Islamic architecture with multiple domes and minarets, located on Anna Salai. 


Amir Mahal: A 14-acre Indo-Saracenic residence built in 1798 by the British East India Company, it was allocated to the Nawabs of Arcot in 1876 and remains their official home.  The structure includes a notable ornamental gateway and is linked by a secret passage to the nearby Acharya Graha. 


Srinivasa Perumal Temple: An ancient Hindu temple administered by the Chettiar community since the 18th century, it houses a revered shrine dedicated to Hanuman and hosts periodic religious festivals (utsavams). 


Royapettah Hospital: Founded as a native infirmary in 1843, it expanded into a major 712-bed government hospital by 1911.  The morgue section features Gothic architectural elements, and the hospital remains a vital medical institution. 


Wesleyan Church (CSI Wesley Church): Constructed in 1819, it was the first Methodist chapel in India and a key center for British missionary activity.  It is part of a historic complex that once housed educational institutions. 


Woodlands Estate & Theatre: Originally the residence of the Rajahs of Ramnad, it was transformed into the Woodlands Hotel in the 1930s by K. Krishna Rao.  The hotel and adjacent Woodlands Theatre remain iconic, preserving a 1940s ambiance. 


Royapettah High Road: The spine of the district, this major thoroughfare connects RK Mutt Road to Westcott Road and is lined with historic buildings, religious sites, and cultural landmarks, including the Provident Fund Office and Pilot Theatre.
